Ayanna Reyes-Dawson’s passion and eye for ethnographic story telling is evident in the portraits she captures on 35mm and 120mm film. Her work focuses on a wide range of North American subcultures and communities including Juggalos, New York City street life, the South Bronx opioid epidemic, and much more. Over the past two years, she has created a compelling collection of images that speak life and perspective into the otherwise overlooked stories of a broad spectrum of communities. Her keen eye and empathetic approach allows her to capture nuanced and insightful views into the people and places she photographs. Ayanna takes time to get to know and understand her subjects and this is reflected in each image she captures. Her work is deeply moving because it authentically represents the subcultures and communities she works with.
